Imaging of auto-oscillating vocal folds replicas with left–right level difference due to angular asymmetry

چکیده
Vertical level difference due to vertical angular asymmetry (up 20°) between the normal (right) and tilted (left) vocal fold (VF) is experimentally assessed in framework of unilateral paralysis. The upstream pressure high-speed vibration imaging for different camera view angles are during steady-state auto-oscillation three mechanical VF replicas. A global image-based correlation allows assess oscillation frequency independently from angle. Resulting frequencies matches ones obtained aerodynamic data. Mean cycles videokymographic line-scans at positions along posterior–anterior direction analysed. Left–right displacement phase difference, axis shift left–right mucosal wave identified as essential parameters quantifying asymmetry. influence degree asymmetry, scan position replica discussed.

Laryngeal flow due to longitudinal sweeping motion of the vocal folds and its contribution to auto-oscillation.
Analysis of published depth-kymography data [George, de Mul, Qiu, Rakhorst, and Schutte (2008). Phys. Med. Biol. 53, 2667-2675] shows that, for the subject studied, the flow due to the longitudinal sweeping motion of the vocal folds contributes several percent of a typical acoustic flow at the larynx. This sweeping flow is a maximum when the glottis is closed. This observation suggests that ass...
متن کاملVibratory asymmetry in mobile vocal folds: is it predictive of vocal fold paresis?
OBJECTIVES The purpose of this study was to determine whether the videostroboscopic finding of vibratory asymmetry in mobile vocal folds is a reliable predictor of vocal fold paresis. In addition, the ability of experienced reviewers to predict the distribution (left/right/bilateral) of the paresis was investigated. METHODS This is a retrospective chart review of all patients who presented to...
متن کاملVocal cord lesion due to lichen planus
Background: Lichen planus is a skin disease that rarely involves mucus membrane. Case: In this study, we introduced a rare case of lichen planus of the right vocal cord in a 51- year -old male presented with hoarseness. The lesion started two years ago and the hoarseness became progressive. There were not any lesions found in his buccal mucosa and skin. The biopsy of the lesion showed lichen...
متن کاملA Survey of Self-oscillating Lumped-element Models of the Vocal Folds
Self-oscillating biomechanical models of the vocal folds are indispensable tools for articulatory speech synthesis, speech coding, and speech analysis. A successful compromise between simplicity and completeness are the lowdimensional vocal fold models with lumped elements. This paper provides a survey of this class of models and compares them in terms of their mechanical design, aerodynamic si...
متن کاملNon-invasive vocal-folds monitoring using electrical imaging methods
Many methods have been considered for human larynx imaging and especially vocalfolds monitoring. A widely-used non-invasive technology for vocal-folds monitoring is electroglottography (EGG), a technology based on impedance measurement of the larynx. Electrical impedance tomography (EIT) is another non-invasive electrical measurement method which attempts to reconstruct the conductivity map ins...
